Key persons in the biestmilch game

Today is a footbal afternoon, Germany vs Sweden, the German team is brilliant and the whole country finds itself in a state of emergency. Thus, there is no time to concentrate on something else. For this reason, today, I start the next chapter of biestmilch, the creation of its name, its story and logo just by introducing two of key persons in this exciting history of our’s.

Bernd, my brother, always a supportive and creative mind.

Biestmilch-Website heute offline genommen

2002: First Biestmilch Team

As I already indicated we started for the world of sports in 2001 http://biest-blog.typepad.com/biest_blog/science_fragments/index.html. It was at the Marathon in Hamburg were we presented biestmilch the very first time. We even had a group of attractive girls and guys on roller skates distributing product samples and flyers. Of course, nobody had a clue about what biestmilch was, nobody was interested in it because there was no biestmilch buzz anywhere. There were poeple who even thought biestmich to be fashion brand.
The whole action cost a lot of money and was a complete failure, typical greenhorn approach, never mind one makes mistakes to learn, we told ourselves.
2002 we showed up in Berlin at the Marathon in a more »professional outfit«. You may not believe it, we even had a team, miniscule, amateurs, ambitious, likable, but lost among 30.000 runners. But we were enthusiastic and proud and the most important thing, full of hope.
We were not successful concerning sales, but we had a lot of fun which is a very important aspect of the job for us. Till today, we tell ourselves:»We take the risk, we have a tough job, almost no free time, at least we want to have fun.« To be honest this acoount is not always balanced.

Perhaps, you want to give it a try.

“Introducing Sport Beans™ Jelly Beans, the newest hot product from the makers of Jelly Belly®! Sport Beans Jelly Beans are formulated with carbohydrates, electrolytes, and vitamins B and C. They’re the ideal portable power for endurance athletes, weekend warriors, and sports enthusiasts of all types. In fact, Sport Beans Jelly Beans fit the needs of anyone looking for a fast, great-tasting source of energy.”http://jellybelly.com/msib21/PromoSites/SportsBeans/SportBeans.html
When I first started doing 10K runs, I tried to save time at the water stations by grabbing a cup and downing it on the go… but then I would always choke and end up coughing up a lung at the side of the road (now I just stop and take my time). Trying to eat these beans during a run would be dangerous for me. So be careful, if your an amateur. Pro’s should neglect this remark.

I feel it. Biestmilch works!

What the heck came into our minds to introduce biestmilch to the endurance sports market!?
We are 3, owning the biestmilch business. Two physicians, my brother and myself, and our close friend Arne, a microbiologist with a career in the pharmaceutical industries behind him. Of course, we started out with biestmilch in the medical field, our first of all area of expertise.
But then it happened that we as amateur runners made this weird experience that biestmilch seemed to help us climbing up the mountains easily. My brother and I were born in the alps. We love running up steep slopes. It was first of all my brother Bernd who said:
»There is something. I feel it. I am running now for 15 years, biestmilch makes a difference.«
It took me some weeks to be able to reproduce his experience. It happened on the steep part of my every other day running course. Suddenly, I felt like having wings. Okay, I exaggerate here a little bit for the sake of the story. This was the turning point for me. From now on I was convinced that biestmilch does some good to our endurance capacity. For Arne things were a little different. He comes from the North, and is therefore not that much the mountain-up runner. But biestmilch also had its effects on him. His running performance improved, even though he is not that a crazy ambitious type like my brother and myself.

This experience inspired us to perform the study cited under http://biest-blog.typepad.com/biest_blog/science_fragments/index.html and enforced our decision to unleash biestmilch into the sports market. To summarize here briefly: We began with focussing on marathon to withdraw from this field after 2 year rather frustrated. But anyhow, for the 3 of us this step into sports was and remained till today challenge, change, relief and fun after so many years within the framework of medicine.

There are many more stories yet to come. Stay with us. We are a pioneer company. Read about our ups and downs, major pitfalls and mini-successes.

At the end of the day we had a pile of data

Referring to my post «biestmilch was naked in those days» I shall finally give you an idea about the results. There were piles of sheets with times on bikes, on treadmills, measures of lactate thresholds, blood cell counts, lactate levels and recoveries, heart rates, oxygen uptake etc. etc.…
We were extremely curious to see whether our very subjective impression that biestmilch is able to improve endurance performance will outlast the various measurements. At that time, we promissed ourselves that in case biestmilch will not meet our expectations we would skip the project and all our dreams related with it.
The results were awsome, I told you already, they were that impressive that we had to hide them not to be suspected of fraud. But nevertheless there was one conlusion we drew in those days. We decided to fight for this strange and marvellous substance regardless the obstructions we met and still meet. And what we learned from the study was:
1. Do not believe that excellent data necessarily pave the way. There is a rule you cannot overrule: it needs the right time, the right place, and, the backing.
2. Biestmilch can improve endurance performance. About the reasons behind I found out almost 2 years later after intense studies.
3. Biestmilch is efficacious in low doses. This made the project feasable. In the beginning we where not sure about this because there was Australian data availbale recommending incredible high amounts. If this were the case biestmilch would be much too expensive to conquer the market.

You see, even we had to hide the unbelievable results of the stuy, we learned a lot from it.
